We are just over a year away from the cinematic start of the new James Gunn-led DCU, and to kick things off will be the Man of Steel himself, Superman, and we now know what the official title for the film will be, and it’s no longer Superman: Legacy.

James Gunn took to Threads recently and shared that principle photography was starting on his Superman film, and even shared a first look at the Superman symbol that will be used. As you can see below, the new symbol takes inspiration from the classic story Kingdom Come, but instead of red and black, it’s red and yellow.

Gunn wrote, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.”

After that post, he also commented that while the original name of the film was Superman: Legacy, that has actually changed, and the film will now simply be titled SUPERMAN.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”

This works out since the Richard Donner film from 1978 was actually titled Superman: The Movie, and it makes for a much cleaner beginning to this brand new universe at DC Studios.

Superman will star David Corenswet as the titular superhero, along with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

Superman is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

With just four days left until the official release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, one final trailer has hit the web for this long awaited film, and it’s a great one!

As seen in the tweet below, fans get a nice glimpse at what to expect in the Snyder Cut, from Darkseid and his minions, the return of Superman, the Omega Beams, a beautiful shot of a Green Lantern in action, and even a shot of Martian Manhunter.

Martian Manhunter as Martha Kent

Over the last couple weeks, Snyder released several character teasers, showcasing new footage based around each main character in the film, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and even Darkseid.

Check out the final Justice League trailer below:

It was revealed that this 4-hour cut will consist of six segments within the film, helping to structure this epic piece of filmmaking.

Also, some critics and lucky fans had the chance to view the film this weekend and the reviews seem to be overwhelmingly positive, which is always a great sign.

So be sure to check out Zack Snyder’s Justice League on March 18 on HBO Max in the US, Crave in Canada, and Sky Cinema and Now TV in the UK.

As we gear up closer to the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, we have gained knowledge that it will include appearances by numerous DC villains. There is  new information that the Snyder Cut teaser reveals more. We’re getting even more looks at characters like Darkseid, Deathstroke, and Joker.

In the Snyder Cut teaser released originally on Twitch before making its way to YouTube , we get to see Darkseid(voiced by Ray Porter) talking about the worlds he has destroyed in his quest for power with glimpses of Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke and more of Jared Leto’s Joker.

Getting a deeper look at Darkseid reveals his true intentions against the Justice League.  This teaser for Darkseid sets the tone in a way that the entire first movie was lacking. He’s one of the number one villains in comic book history and getting to see his journey to fighting the Justice League this time around is surely going to be different.

We also got another look at Deathstroke and Joker. Seemingly working together in the clip, Deathstroke is standing next to Joker as he’s laughing at his own calling card. Does this mean that the Justice League enlist the help of their villains to take on Darkseid? Possibly but it’s nice to see Manganiello’s Deathstroke have his time. Deathstroke also appears in what looks like Batman’s Knightmare scene, hinting at the team-up between the mercenary and the Dark Knight promised by director Zack Snyder.

This new look at Darkseid, Deathstroke, and Joker follows on the heels of the more fleshed-out looks at our favorite heroes in recent days.

All four hours of the Snyder Cut are coming to HBO Max on March 18. It’s been a long time coming for fans of the DCEU and getting to see where the Justice League goes in Zack Snyder’s vision is going to be the talk of the internet either way.

The Snyder Cut has been debated and talked about quite a bit ever since the original film hit theaters. We have seen the trailer, we have  also been given the preview to the comic book that goes along with the movie. Now Snyder will have a chance to debut his full vision in this ultimate cut of the movie, which also includes some new footage and concepts. These surprises included the debut of a new Mother Box Origins CG sequence.  The first glimpse at Zack Snyder’s Justice League is full of Easter Eggs. He has revealed that he sketched them all. The sequence highlights all of the heroes of the League on various sides of a Mother Box, and as it turns to its various sides, you see the heroes depicted with other locations and themes from their origins and characters as well as a host of other Easter Eggs according to Snyder. The stylish sequence is accompanied by the Tom Waits song “Time”.

After years of Bringing DC Comics to life through Man of Steel, Batman Vs. Superman, Aquaman, Justice League, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, and Watchmen, Zack Snyder now has revealed to us the ultimate in DC Universe movie experience. Zack Snyder is bringing us the ultimate; The Zack Snyder’s Justice League Cut.

Director Zack Snyder and HBO Max revealed the full trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League Cut on Sunday. It gives audiences the first expanded look at his four-hour version of the DC Films superhero movie. The trailer features a battle of epic proportions between the Justice League and big bad Darkseid , who was intended to be the main villain of the first cut of the film, but ultimately was not included. The clip also teases a conversation between Jared Leto’s the Joker and Ben Affleck’s Batman.

In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, fueled by his restored faith in humanity, inspired by Superman’s selfless act, and determined to ensure that Superman’s ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) to face an even greater threat.

Bruce and Diana have plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. This team includes Arthur Curry (Aquaman played by Jason Momoa) , Barry Allen (The Flash played by Ezra Miller), and Victor Stone (Cyborg played by Ray Fisher).

The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes known as the Justice League.

Now united, Batman , Wonder Woman , Aquaman , Cyborg and The Flash may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), DeSaad (Peter Guinness), and Darkseid (Ray Porter)  and their dreadful intentions.

Summary

The issue opens at an auction for the planet Earth.  There are a number of bidders, including Steppenwolf, the Dominion and…God?  Not really, just a look a like who calls himself the Shepherd.  When the Shepherd wins the auction, the Green Lantern Corps appear out of nowhere to put a stop to it, Hal Jordan leading the charge to arrest the God-like being.

The Shepherd argues his innocence and Jordan’s lack of jurisdiction, but it doesn’t stop Hal from uncovering the unsettling truth about the Shepherd which he reveals to a brainwashed Earth.  Even a visit to his friend Tom Kalamuku yields no results for Jordan.

Hal is able to expose the Shepherd’s true nature and put a final end to the auctioning by the slave traders, but Hal’s actions don’t appear to go over that well with his fellow Lanterns.

Positives

There are a lot of funny moments in this issue.  It’s a bit absurd as Hal Jordan attempts to place a being that appears to be God under arrest.  Steppenwolf’s banter during the auction is also laced with humor.  While being serious, Morrison is able to find some amusing takes that almost makes it seem like satire.

As for Sharp, he appears to be channeling some classic E.C. Comics Wally Wood in his depiction of aliens, especially the textures.  While some are clearly from the D.C. Universe, Sharp is bringing a little something extra to the party that evokes that E.C. feel.  For those of you that don’t know, E.C. Comics are some of the best comics ever made.

Negatives

While the big ideas are working in this title so far, it really seems to be lacking quality character moments.  Green Lantern comics have been heavy on character for the last 15 years or so, and it’s startling to have to series be more plot than character based.  Despite an appearance by Hal’s old pal, Tom Kalamuku, it’s an insubstantial interaction.

One wonders if this wouldn’t work better with a new, unknown Lantern as the protagonist or with a different space cop concept entirely.  It just doesn’t feel like a Green Lantern comic.

Verdict

Three issues in, The Green Lantern is a bit of a jarring shift from the Green Lantern comics of the last 15 years.  While the aliens and intrigue are engaging both visually and storywise, there is a clear lack of character work missing.  So much so, that it may be difficult to get this to feel like a Green Lantern comic.  The humor in the issue leans towards satire and it’s not clear if that’s good or bad, but it was clever and enjoyable and was probably the best part of the comic along with Sharp’s Woodesque aliens.

Summary

The assault on Superman’s fortress, known as The Oracle is underway! Thanks to the powers of He-Man and Orku, their abilities are enough to shatter the Brainiac power grid! Across the universe in Enternia however things are getting worse with the invasion of Darkseid, as Cyborg, Man at Arms and others engage in their own type of war.

Positives

Seeley gives you action at all directions in this issue, and it’s hard not to notice. Thanks to the actions of Damian Wayne, also known as Batman, He-Man is now here and ready to bring Superman to justice. Using his powers to infiltrate The Oracle, Superman’s watchtower and the controlling base of Wonder Woman’s “Suicide Squad”. Thanks to his magic, He-Man shorts out the tower and is able to partially wake up Bruce Wayne–who’s mind had been used for finding targets throughout the planet. It’s in this brief period we have an emotional moment between Damian Wayne and Bruce, who recognizes his son in the cape and cowl and calls out to him. On the other end of the universe, we also find that He-Man is needed on his own homeworld as Eternia finds themselves invaded by Darkseid and his parademons. Launching an attack on Castle Grayskull itself, Darkseid has already destroyed the central prison of Eternia, giving him an endless horde of parademons to invade the castle with Steppenwolf leading the assault. Cyborg is pretty essential in this issue, as he attempts to make up for the crimes of being in league with Superman. Cyborg’s path to redemption is strong in this issue and I hope to continue seeing it unfold more in the future.

Negatives

I have no complaints about this issue. Seeley’s story is strong and gets emotional at times, especially with the characters seeking redemption or closure for the things they’ve done over the years. Damian Wayne is a prime example of this during his conversation with He-Man. In one of the rare moments in Damian’s life, he actually tells someone about his fears, his faults, and one of his greatest failures. However he uses all those past mistakes to make himself and his world better as Batman now. It was probably one of the most heartfelt moments I’ve personally seen from the character, and it made you feel more sympathy for him as well. We even have a moment where Superman questions what he’s done over the last few years as he recalls a memory about Lois Lane, but I doubt we’ll ever see any redemption with him. This version of Superman can show regret one minute, and the next he’s back to being a dictator–as you’ll see in the issue.

Verdict

Overall I loved this issue and thought Seeley gave us all and more in it. It’s full of action and emotion, we have a few characters seeking to redeem themselves, and it seems that next issue we’ll finally have that He-Man versus Superman fight we’ve been wanting to see!

Unbeknownst to most since Warner Bros. didn’t market it, a Blu-ray box set containing all five DC films was released earlier this summer.

The set includes the theatrical films ‘Man of Steel’ (2013), ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ (2016), both of which were directed by Zack Snyder, ‘Suicide Squad’ (2016) directed by David Ayer, ‘Wonder Woman’ (2017) directed by Patty Jenkins and 2017’s ‘Justice League’ directed by Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon.

The set also includes the vastly superior ‘Ultimate Edition’ of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ as well as the ‘Extended Cut’ of ‘Suicide Squad’.

All seven are now available on Amazon for the retail price of $60. But as of this writing it is currently on sale for $41.99. So if you don’t have these films, now is the time to get them at a very low price.

Zack Snyder has spoken again.  This time he confirms that the DCEU was never meant to be a shared universe like the MCU, well, not in the traditional sense.  After the MCU hit it off in a big way with critics, fans, and the box office numbers; it was only natural that Warner Bros. takes its DC property and go for the same idea of one unified cinematic universe that would show most of its major characters tied together. According to Zack Snyder, one shared universe was never the final plan.

Recently in a Vero interview, Snyder was presented with the idea that he was only trying to make a sort of “Trilogy” much like Christopher Nolan did with his Batman trilogy in the sense that his series was to act as a more self-contained story than anything else.  Snyder only answered “Yes” when presented with this theory.

Man of Steel wrapped shooting in August 2011, in the middle of the MCU’s phase 1. The film did include many Easter eggs to hint, only hint, at the much larger DC Universe in movie form (Wayne Enterprises satellite, Lex Corp tanker trucks, etc) but these were meant to be just hooks left out in the DCEU for other directors to come along and create their visions of other heroes as they saw fit. This wasn’t necessarily to tie together the characters as the MCU did with Nick Fury or its constant Tony Stark appearances on film.  The Avengers hit it big at the box office, Warner Bros. saw the numbers, and rushed into Batman V. Superman and so on. Wonder Woman is the perfect example of the Snyder vision as it took place separate from the previous three films inside the DCEU.

After the critical shelling of the Joss Whedon reshoot in Justice League, DC Films, and Warner Bros. has gone back to this idea with James Wan heading up Aquaman (December 21, 2018) and even the creation of a separate studio called DC Dark, to showcase the less kid-friendly side of DC Comics.
