There’s been a lot said of superhero fatigue given the recent box office disappointment of Marvel and DC movies, so maybe they just wanted us to miss the caped crusader a little longer. Another factor could be it just wouldn’t have been ready in time. We can all safely say Matt Reeves knows what he is doing. Little is known about what the film will be about or who the villain is, so if Reeves needs more time I’d rather wait for him to fully realize his vision.

Another factor to consider is James Gunn’s DCU. It’s common knowledge the The Batman Pt II will not be part of James Gunn’s DCU which get’s its first movie, Superman, in 2025. It could be that Warner Bros didn’t want to muddy the waters.  Lucky for fans we won’t have to wait that long to return to Reeves’ Gotham. This fall will see the release of The Penguin TV series starring Colin Farrell.

At the time Jason Todd wasn’t well liked by readers, but the vote to kill him was surprisingly close. From a total of 10,614 votes, fans decided that Jason should succumb to his injuries by a narrow 72-vote margin of 5,343 votes to 5,271. Writers and artists discussed their upcoming books including Nicole Maines, Sina Grace and Jeffery Brown.  Maines, known to most fans as Dreamer on Supergirl, was there  to talk about Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story.  Sina Grace shared his excitement over his upcoming book Superman: The Harvests of Youth.  Penelope and Jerry Gaylord chatted about Diana and the Hero’s Journey and Clark & Lex. Jeffrey Brown was there to talk about the hit Batman and Robin and Howard. Bestselling author Jim Benton got fans hyped for Fann Club: Batman Squad.

With all that star power there were bound to be some special announcements, and the panel did not disappoint! Jeffrey Brown is writing a sequel to his Batman and Robin and Howard middle-grade graphic novel, it will be called Batman and Robin and Howard: Summer Breakdown. It will be a 3-issue comic book series and will arrive in March of 2024.

To top it all off, Sherri L. Smith showed up as a secret guest. She will be writing her first DC graphic novel. it will be aimed at middle schoolers and will be titled Lightning: Changes. Lily J Allen will be doing the art. Lightning: Changes will focus on a  young Jennifer Pierce as she deals with a rough summer. Safe to say the rest of the Black Lightning family will be involved! Lightning: Changes will hit stores in the fall of 2024!  Check out a few preview images below!

Philip Kennedy Johnson also mentioned a partnership between Superman other characters in this storyline.  The threat The Chained posses is so potent that it may force Clark to question his moral compass.

A big surprise was the announcement of a new series, Kneel Before Zod, coming out in 2024, so keep an eye out. Created by Joe Casey  and Dan McDaid , it will be set on Krypton right before its destruction.  Zod will be at his lowest, and is out for revenge on the House of El.

Action Comics #1060 will set the stage  for Kneel Before Zod,  That issue won’t hit stands until December, so we have to wait a bit for more hints on what the story may be.

Superman #7, by Josh Williamson, Gleb Melnikov, and Dan Jurgens,  will be Superman’s 850th issue. At the panel it was revealed that it will be an oversized issue.

Philip Kennedy Johnson mentioned that Superman will be part of  “team-ups readers never would have expected.” We also got a tease that Perry White’s new occupation will be revealed

Sina Grace was also on the panel to talk about his upcoming YA graphic novel, Superman the Harvests of Youth. The story tells the tale of a young Clark Kent and the challenges of growing up. He’s very proud of the work and hopes all Superman fans will be too. One thing everyone on the panel could agree on was what an incredible character and legacy that Superman has.  As Phillip Kennedy Johnson said, “Superman is my religion”.  Metropolis is going to get very interesting in the upcoming months.

Next came  a special video greeting from Chip Zdarsky, then Catwoman writer Tini Howard joined the panel to talk about Catwoman becoming a crime boss in Gotham City and how its going to lead to “Gotham War” and the effects it will have on the Batman family.

Award-winning storyteller Rafael Grampa joined the panel to talk about his DC Black Label series, Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham.

This is the first DC work from Grampa since his collaboration with Frank Miller on Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child in 2019. Grampá showed a look at a variant cover for the debut issue of the series (Batman Day, September 16).

Writer Ram V was also part of the panel.  He talked about his run on Detective Comics. Ram and Abernathy also had a special surprise for fans in attendance. In keeping with the operatic theme of “Gotham Nocturne,” the duo announced a brief “intermezzo” planned for October, revealing cover art for Detective Comics #1076, a four-issue arc called “Batman Outlaw.”

To finish up the panel, Batman Beyond storytellers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing joined the panel to give fans a peak into  their series, Batman Beyond: Neo-Gothic. In addition to their new series (on sale July 25), there was breaking news  on their next DC project, Outsiders.  This brings a new-look Batwoman together with Luke Fox/Batwing, and a new version of The Drummer.

A seven-and-a-half-foot tall bronze Wonder Woman statue was unveiled today in a special ceremony at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood as part of a partnership between Visit Burbank, DC, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Today’s unveiling ceremony was attended by local government and business luminaries including Burbank Mayor Konstantine Anthony, Pam Lifford, President, Global Brands, Franchises and Experiences, Jim Lee, DC Chief Creative Office and Publisher, and Wonder Woman 1984 Director Patty Jenkins.

“Wonder Woman is one of the world’s most beloved and iconic DC Super Heroes of all time — A Champion of Truth, Justice, and a Warrior for Peace,” said Pam Lifford, President, Global Brands, Franchises and Experiences. “As we kick off the Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary – Sharing Every Story, Wonder Woman is part of this company’s story and legacy. Not only is she a prominent fixture of the Studio Tour, she will now be a permanent fixture as our story continues for the next 100 years.”

The adaption of the Jeff Lemire’s Vertigo comic was a surprise hit for Netflix when it debuted in 2021. Yes, we’ve had to wait a while, and there has been a lot of shake up at DC since, especially in the film and television mediums, but here’s hoping the fans return to see the next chapter of this post-apocalyptic saga. DMZ may be done, and Y: the Last Man may be cancelled, but Sandman and Sweet Tooth are still going strong. It seems like Netflix knows how to adapt these adult stories for the small screen, and given all the action we see in this new Sweet Tooth trailer, we are in for another incredible season of television.

With the rash of  of shows be canceled and pulled by Warner Bros, it’s nothing short of a miracle. This is a glimmer of good news coming from Warner Bros in the pre- James Gunn DC landscape. With two seasons guaranteed, the show will have time to develop characters and dig into story telling. That should improve the chances of further seasons.

Obviously we don’t have a release date, but at least this project will see the light of day. These days that is a definite plus, we just hope it doesn’t take to long to get made and that it is worth the wait and drama.

Caped Crusader has been announced for a while and was mentioned during FanDome so the buzz has been there for a while. Also of note is that famed comics scribe Ed Brubaker is also Executive producing. The level of talent involved in this show has a lot of us here at Dccomicsnews.com excited. Will it live up to the hype? Right now I’d say the chances are pretty good that it will! Stay tuned!

We aren’t sure what to expect from Lex this season, but it’s safe to say Michael Cudlitz will bring his A game. And that means a take on the character that will be complex.

“Personally, I’ve always felt Lex was just misunderstood,” the actor said of the iconic DC villain. “This whole experience so far has been amazing.” Adding, “From the collaboration with our showrunners Todd [Helbing] and Brent [Fletcher] to the incredibly warm welcome I received from Tyler [Hoechlin] and Elizabeth [Tulloch] and the entire cast and crew. I cannot wait to share with the fans how much fun we’ve been having.”

As most of the CW shows have ended, there’s a lot riding on the next season. At this point it is doubtful that Superman and Lois will factor in to James Gunn’s new vision for the DC universe on film amd TV, but if fans are receptive to these versions of the characters and the actors who play them, maybe there’s an Elseworlds place for them. I know I am looking forward to where we go this season. Cudlitz’s take on Lex may be a jewel in the crown  of a show already full of surprises!

At this point it seems we will definitely be in the upcoming Peacemaker spin off Waller. What makes Gunn’s statement interesting is the “sooner than you think” part. We know that Creature Commandos is a spin off of The Suicide Squad because it will feature Weasel and the casting is pretty much complete. It seems like Creatures is a safe bet. However, it could be fun to speculate.

The next film on the DC docket is Shazam Fury of the Gods. It seems pretty unlikely that Steve Agee would appear in the Shazam sequel, especially in a film that we know has cameos. A recent TV spot featured Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. The Flash? Also doubtful since this is another film full of cameos. And Keaton’s Batman. Blue Beetle? Maybe. The Beetle is a more street level heros so it makes more sense. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Also unlikely given that a lot of the action will take place in the ocean and outside the jurisdiction of the US government.

Wherever we see him, it will be nice to have him back. His comic timing as John Economos is second to none. James’ Gunn vision will generally include humor so he can be an ace in the hole. As the new DCU begins to come in to focus we will se just where and how he fits in, but i have a feeling we will be seeing more of Steve Agee and John Economos.
