Returning to Harrogate Convention Centre, Thought Bubble will take place over November16th and 17th for one of the most important and beloved events in the international comics calendar.  Featuring hundreds of comic creators and thousands of fans, Thought Bubble is a true festival of comics and comic art with some of the world’s most influential and exciting creators regularly making their way to Yorkshire for the event.

Now firmly at home in Harrogate Convention Centre, Thought Bubble enjoyed a 28% increase in attendance from 2022 to 2023, beating 2019 sales for the first time since the pandemic as the event goes from strength to strength with over 500 comic-creating exhibitors, 30 comics focused panels and workshops, and thousands of visitors.

With similar capacity crowds expected again this year, November will see the first time Thought Bubble attendees will be able to collect their tickets early thanks to box office desks set up in independent venues around Harrogate on the Friday evening, as well as the opening of a second entrance in the convention center. This early collection will cut down queuing time on the first day of the convention as well as encourage Thought Bubble fans to explore and support more independent Harrogate businesses.

Alongside the convention, the Thought Bubble festival will return this year with a mix of free and ticketed events taking place around Leeds and Yorkshire from 11 – 17 November, including film screenings, public art, workshops, talks, and much more.

Tickets for the Thought Bubble Comic Convention are on sale now with newly introduced ticket options for families and students, while for children under 12, carers, and those over 65 tickets remain totally free. Tickets give access to all events within the comic convention weekend; panels, workshops, guest signings, as well as the three huge halls of over 400 exhibitors, publishers, and much more to be announced.

Thought Bubble will share details on guests, and exhibitors and reveal their 2024 program over the coming months.

A new statue of Wonder Woman has been unveiled in Burbank, CA to help celebrate Warner Bros. 100th anniversary. The seven-and-a-half-foot tall bronze Wonder Woman statue, located at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, is very impressive and was designed by artist Jenny Frison. A life-sized Batman statue was erected in Burbank back in 2020.

A Warner Bros. press release had more info, stating:

A Warrior for Peace will stand as a symbol of justice for visitors and residents of Burbank to enjoy for generations to come. A seven-and-a-half-foot tall bronze Wonder Woman statue was unveiled today in a special ceremony at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood as part of a partnership between Visit Burbank, DC, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Today’s unveiling ceremony was attended by local government and business luminaries including Burbank Mayor Konstantine Anthony, Pam Lifford, President, Global Brands, Franchises and Experiences, Jim Lee, DC Chief Creative Office and Publisher, and Wonder Woman 1984 Director Patty Jenkins.

Wonder Woman is one of the world’s most beloved and iconic DC Super Heroes of all time — A Champion of Truth, Justice, and a Warrior for Peace,” said Pam Lifford, President, Global Brands, Franchises and Experiences. “As we kick off the Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary – Sharing Every Story, Wonder Woman is part of this company’s story and legacy. Not only is she a prominent fixture of the Studio Tour, she will now be a permanent fixture as our story continues for the next 100 years.”

“Since she made her debut in the pages of All-Star Comics #8, Wonder Woman has been published all over the world and has inspired millions of fans around the world who saw themselves in the action-packed pages of the comic books, as Lynda Carter in the TV show, or Gal Gadot in the movies,” remarked Jim Lee, DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher. “Her real, secret super power is that she continues to bring fans together around something they love.”

If you get the chance, be sure to head over to Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood in Burbank, CA and check out this amazing new Wonder Woman statue.

Aaron S Bailey dc comics newsIn this exclusive interview we chat with artist Aaron S Bailey about his upcoming project, Night of the Batman.

The internet has been abuzz with the announcement that Mr. Bailey is working on a film inspired by Ben Affleck’s Batman. Bailey’s been keeping DC fans in the loop over Twitter sharing images of the project and there’s been a great deal of support and positive sentiment towards it. We were privileged to get an insight into his work, what inspired the idea, and we also have an exclusive image further down of the Dark Knight himself.

DCN (DC Comics News)  Tell us a bit about you, your background and your journey so far.
A.S.B (Aaron S Bailey) First of all, thank you for letting me talk about this project! I’m Aaron, a freelance artist and photographer. I’ve had a passion for storytelling and film making most of my life and eventually that led me to making art of my favourite movies and tv shows. I started VERY rough and taught myself photoshop and various 3D software skills. That’s what eventually gave me the idea to use these skills to tell a story about (in my opinion) the greatest on-screen Batman.
DCN For those fans who are not across the news, you’re creating a realistic comic set ‘Night of the Batman’ an original take on the stand alone Ben Affleck Batman movie. It’s going to be set in the Snyderverse. Why did you take on the project? What were the triggers to get it off the ground?
A.S.B The same as many people, I was disappointed we never got the Batman film that Ben Affleck was working on. I did like Matt Reeves take very much but part of me still wanted back story or a fleshing out on the DCEU version of the character.
I’ve also been a part of the ‘Snyderverse’ movement since 2017 and in that time I’ve made some amazing friends, made memories and eventually that got me to meet Zack himself. That was a huge push for me to pursue this project and give not only me but all of Affleck’s Batman fans something special.
DCN What’s your approach to the story? Are you extending on what Snyder has created?
A.S.B  Absolutely, I’m taking the framework Zack started and using that to tell a story set before BVS about a particularly dark time for this version of Batman. I didn’t want to use the idea or outline involving Deathstroke (I still have hope for that film to be made) but rather to tell my own story at a different time.
Night of the Batman DC Comics News

The Batman, in #NightOfTheBatman

DCN Are there any other sources of inspiration you’re drawing on separate from Snyder’s work?
A.S.B  I think a huge inspiration for me from Zack is Watchmen. That film so perfectly captured the less than glamorous side of being a Superhero, it’s a tragedy told in a hyper stylized world.
That is very much where we find Bruce in my story, on a path that will lead to where we find his character in BVS.
DCN How much of an influence to produce the story were the fans?
A.S.B  Massive. That’s why I’m pulling in people from the community to help, I want different perspectives and ideas to shine through in the final product.
DCN Can you share any insights into the story that you already haven’t shared online that will get the fans excited?
A.S.B The scope and story has definitely changed since announcing this so I’m currently revising my script to match the huge interaction from the community. One aspect that I haven’t revealed is that we will in fact see Dick Grayson in this story. I’ll save ‘the how’ for later but as you can imagine it’s probably not in a happy way.
DCN How have you gone about the selection process for the cast? What attributes are you looking for?
A.S.B  I’m currently only casting a few select roles right now due to availability but my main goal is to match voices fairly closely with established characters.
DCN Can you share any artwork with us that the fans haven’t seen yet – we will feature these in the article for the fans to see.
DCN What can the fans expect with the story, will all four parts be released at once or over a time line?
A.S.B The release will be over a period of time (the time frame is TBA) and will be fully voiced and scored motion panels!

Leave a comment below on your thoughts on the upcoming project. Be sure to follow Mr. Bailey on Twitter here

The gang at our sister site, Dark Knight News, and I have been writing about Park Row London since before it even opened.

Having a Batman/Gotham City-themed restaurant in the heart of London is something that excited our entire UK-based team, and this particular Bat-Nerd HUGELY.

Thanks to my amazing wife, Jacqueline, I finally walked through the doors, sampled the gorgeous food, experienced the atmosphere, and met some of the wonderful people working there.

This isn’t a barbecue or burger joint, the food here is of a far higher class and style. You really do get what you pay for.

Here’s how the venue’s described on the company website:

Park Row is London’s first DC-inspired restaurant experience, created by Wonderland Restaurants in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC. as part of the Wonderland Restaurant group, a rich melting pot of some of the finest creative minds and storytellers from the world of food, film and magic.

Our company’s vision is to bring curiosity and wonderment to the dining experience in a way never seen before, and build an international portfolio of immersive food concepts around iconic brands, stories and characters.

From the moment you see the restaurant you’re greeted with a structure that screams style and class. The windows bear the legend “Gotham City” and even have Court Of Owls imagery on them. The canopy and door reminded us both of the Art-Deco entrance to New York’s Empire State Building; a theme that follows you into the restaurant itself.

Every Batman era is represented, from the Adam West and Burt Ward TV show, Tim Burton’s Batman ’89, all the way to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.

We were greeted by Daniel. He gave us a warm smile and welcome, clearly prepared to regale us with the history of Park Row and Gotham City. Sadly, with my child-like enthusiasm after spotting a Shakespeare bust, just like the one seen in the vintage Adam West Batman ’66 TV show, I blundered straight past him announcing at the top of my lungs, “Wow! That’s what Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson used to get into the Batcave in the 60s!”

Daniel simply said, “Give that a try, and see what happens.”

Well… you didn’t have to tell me twice.

Upon lifting the bust the bookcase ahead of us swung aside, revealing a dimly lit, but brightly colored set of steps that led to the restaurant below. There we were met by Claudia, who took our coats and gave us a Joker Token with which we could retrieve them later.

This is not Planet Hollywood or TGI Friday, this is a million miles away from those places. This restaurant handles the Batman theme with grace and utter class. It’s not tacky or brash, it’s understated… and excellent. Patryk guided us around the restaurant and showed us the many faces of Gotham City, while telling us about the full 10-course taster menu, with paired drinks and the full, interactive, immersive Monarch Theatre experience. We’ll be back for that at the end of February, though Dark Knight News assistant editor, James Attias, has already experienced it.

There’s theatre, flavor, atmosphere, and fun, all in equal measure. We went for a quiet lunch but the place soon started filling up. Sine and Lucy served us and they were both fantastic.

No, it isn’t cheap but it’s far from expensive. Jacqui and I are real foodies, and have eaten in Michelin Star restaurants; Park Row is on the same level as many of them. Three-course meals start from as little as £35 per person and the venue also offers a-la-carte options, Afternoon Tea, and the world-famous full 10-course taster menu and immersive theatrical experience which is truly a feast for the senses.

The food is exquisite and there’s a great selection for vegetarians, vegans, and those who don’t drink alcohol.

We loved every minute.

Here is the Scott Snyder – DC Comics News Exclusive Interview. Scott is synonymous with Batman. His runs on Detective Comics, the main Batman title, All-Star Batman, Dark Nights: Metal, Death Metal, and others, are now legendary. He’s also a writer who’s also changed the face of the entire DC Universe.

He’s also worked on Swamp Thing and written a multitude of creator owned independent comics that are loved by millions. Nocterra, Barnstorming, and American Vampire are just a few of the titles he’s co-created.

One thing that fans may not know is how much he supports independent comic stores, champions physical, printed comics and shares his love of sites, like DC Comics News, and our sister sites, Dark Knight News and Fantastic Universes.

I was fortunate enough to finally meet him in the flesh at this year’s Thought Bubble convention. We talked about several of his brand-new projects for ComiXology, including a monthly series with his son, Jack. He proved that, when it comes to comics fans and Scott Snyder, you really should meet your heroes.

Scott Snyder – DC Comics News Exclusive Interview

Thought Bubble started life in November 2007 as a one-day event, an idea sparked by renowned comic artist Tula Lotay (aka Lisa Wood). At the time Lisa worked in a Leeds comic book shop, Travelling Man. Travelling Mans Director, Nabil Homsi, encouraged Lisa to get Thought Bubble going, he gave guidance and financial support to make it happen. The first convention took place in the basement of Leeds Town Hall. The following year the convention grew, and then grew again and again.

From the very beginning Thought Bubble’s ethos has been to celebrate comics and the people who make them. This focus on comics, the creators and the fans make Thought Bubble a unique kind of festival, especially loved by comic creators themselves! This leads to a consistently high caliber of talent at our annual comic convention.

With humble beginnings, Thought Bubble has gone from strength to strength, with an unparalleled reputation and a growth built primarily on word of mouth and a deep love of comics and the people who make them. Now the event has grown to a huge week-long festival and attracts thousands of attendees and guests from around the world.

Look out for our interview with James Tynion IV, also from Thought Bubble 2022.

James Tynion IV is one of the most acclaimed and respected writers in comics. He’s written Detective Comics, Batman, Justice League Dark, and many others for DC. His move over to creator-owned work with Substack made headlines, and he’s one of the most prolific writers in the business.

Department of Truth, Something Is Killing The Children, and The Nice House On The Lake are series that are loved by fans and critics alike. James’ work on Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country, for DC Black Label, has also proven to be a smash hit.

I attended the Thought Bubble convention this past weekend, where I was lucky enough to talk to James about his work on Substack, and we also got news about both The Nice House On The Lake and Nightmare Country… but that’s enough from me, let’s hear from James!

James Tynion IV – DC Comics News Exclusive Interview

Thought Bubble is, in my opinion, the UK’s best comic convention. Unlike some of the other shows, which are all great but have comics as a secondary focus, Thought Bubble is all, 100% comics centric. It attracts the biggest names in the business and is the warmest, friendliest con there is.

This show feels like it’s run by family.

Look out for our exclusive interview with Scott Snyder, also from the Thought Bubble convention!

Cameraman – Roy-Carlos Sinclair
Video Editor – Dave Tidey

Comics fans in the UK don’t have Thanksgiving to fill the gap between Halloween and Christmas. What we do have to look forward to, however, is Thought Bubble 2022, the biggest (and best) purely comics-based convention of its kind.

This is a show that isn’t all about TV, movies, and video games and that also covers comics… oh, no. Thought Bubble is totally, 100% comics focused. This is what makes it this particular fan’s favorite show of the year.

I mean, check out the guest list!

  • Scott Snyder
  • Gail Simone
  • James Tynion IV
  • Ram V
  • Dan Watters
  • Jock
  • Christian Ward
  • Cecil Castellucci
  • Sean Phillips
  • Richard Starkings
  • Martin Simmonds
  • Si Spurrier
  • G. Willow Wilson

and many, many more!

As well as this cornucopia of comics creatives, the show will also feature the usual favorite activities, cosplay, panels, competitions, stalls, vendors, displays and much more besides.

I was fortunate enough to represent DC Comics News, and our sister sites Dark Knight News and Fantastic Universes last year, so am delighted to be doing the same for Thought Bubble 2022.

Whether you’re a fan of DC, Marvel, Image, BOOM!, Dark Horse, Aftershock, Ahoy, Comixology, Manga, Superheroes, Horror, Romance, or all of the above, Thought Bubble is guaranteed to have something you’ll love.

So, don’t let the winter blues get you down. Head on up to Harrogate and let this wonderful convention warm your heart, stimulate your mind, and delight your eyes. Some of the best writers and artists in the business will be there, as well as the greatest fan-sites in the world.

Will you be there this year? If so, you’re guaranteed a great time, and please say hello if you see us there!

“DC.com is a celebration of everything across the DC Multiverse and we couldn’t be more excited for today’s launch,” said DC GM/SVP Anne DePies. “We are doubling down on DC’s digital ecosystem and there has never been a better time to be a DC fan and with this one stop shop, we’re bringing everything together in one place to easily access and celebrate your fandom.”

DC.com will continue to be the home for breaking news and deep dives on the latest DC releases across comic books, film, TV, video games – all in one place! Registered users can also enter to be featured as the Community Member of the Month, highlighting their favorite DC comic book picks. With “convention season” in full swing, the DC Community site will also be the place to show off your artistic abilities in the new cosplay and fanworks gallery.

To celebrate the new website, DC Shop will introduce Premium Collectibles and Limited Edition items as well as new first to market apparel designs for Harley Quinn, Black Adam, and Shazam!
