I recently received some samples of the new DC collection of silicone rings from Enso Rings, and I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised.

The collection includes three rings based on superheroes from the DC Universe — Superman, Batman, and The Flash.

At first, I wasn’t sure how I would like them, as I’ve never worn a silicone ring. I’ve worn different metal rings, including a wedding ring and a Green Lantern ring, but silicone was never one that crossed my mind as a legitimate option. But after trying these on and wearing them for awhile, I don’t think I would want anything other than silicone for any future rings.

I’ve had issues with most metal rings I’ve worn, mainly because they’re just uncomfortable. I need a ring that is rounded on all the edges, and you get that with these. Enso rings are super comfortable, and the silicone provides a bit of stretch, which is great for when your fingers inevitable swell for whatever reason. They are easy to put on and take off, and you barely even know they’re there.

They also have a simple, yet great design, showcasing the symbol and key colors for each of the three featured members of the Justice League. Batman gets a black pearl band with yellow topaz inlay, Superman gets a sapphire blue band with ruby red inlay, and The Flash gets a ruby red band with gold inlay — and they are all gorgeous

While they are great rings, there are a couple of small downsides for me. Being silicone, they can’t be resized, so if your ring size changes, you may be out of luck. And the other issue I have is the lack of female hero representation. While I love The Flash, if they’re only going to have three designs available, it should’ve been the DC Trinity — Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

My hope is that they expand their collection in the future and bring in heroes like Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, and maybe even some villains like Harley Quinn, Reverse Flash, and the various other Lantern Corps.

I was able to get my hands on a pair of the Joker Club C 85 shoes and the DC x Reebok logo hoodie.

First off, they both look great! The material of the hoodie is just right. Not too thick, not too thin. The fit was pretty much near perfect, which, for me, was a small. So I recommend going with the size you normally buy. It is made well and does not feel cheap. This is a very high quality garment and is super comfortable.

I really like the retro feel of the character images the used for sleeves (which you can see below).

The shoes also fit nicely and were very comfortable.  I barely needed any time to break them in. The color scheme’s tasteful and the Joker branding isn’t overbearing (a simple image on the shoe tongue). These shoes feel more like hip street wear than kiddie shoes. They whisper madness, instead of screaming it, and it works, even when focusing on an over-the-top character like the Joker.

For my taste, I didn’t find any negatives. Some of you may find these items a little too understated. If you want something a bit more flamboyant, this line may not be for you. And you may have a little trouble finding something to go with purple shoes. Other than that, this line is a can’t miss!

I was so grateful to get a couple pairs of shoes from this incredible new line from Reebok. They sent over the Superman Shaq Attaq Basketball Shoes and the Batman LX 2200 Running Shoes.

I absolutely loved the Superman shoes. As someone with wider feet, they provided the perfect fit and comfort that I wanted in a shoe. As Brad previously stated, this line of apparel is very understated, and not super showy, which I liked, and these shoes were no different, as they utilize a grey color scheme with pops of red, yellow, and blue.

The Superman Shaq Attaq shoes are a high top-style basketball shoe and provide great ankle support, as well as the right amount of cushioning for your feet. They include a pump bubble with the Superman logo on the tongue, and the Shaq and Man Of Steel logos on the backs.

I highly recommend this shoe for anyone looking for something that will provide deep comfort for your feet.

The other pair I received was the Batman LX 2200 running shoes.

Now, while I liked the look of these, I don’t think they screamed Batman quite enough, or, at least, not in the right ways. They are mostly black, with a bit of tan and grey. They include the Bat logo on the tongue, but also have laces covers that resemble Batman’s armor. And while these are cool in concept, I don’t think they serve the shoe functionally in any positively useful way. But they are removable, so if they aren’t working for you, you can go without them.

As far as the shoes themselves go, they have a nice cushion feel, which is important for a running shoe. However, they are a bit narrow for my taste, since, as previously stated, I have wider feet. So, they end up feeling a bit too tight to be comfortable. But, if you don’t have wide feet, and you’re looking for a new running shoe, I would suggest giving these a try.

Reebok’s tasteful line of DC-themed gear is perfect for the hip nerd. Understated just enough to show your fandom, and still fit in at the club.

Summary

Insight Editions and DC Comics are a partnership made in paradise, or in the case of Wonder Woman: The Way Of The Amazons, Paradise Island. I’ve been excited about this book since it was announced, back in May, and having read (and re-read) it a few times since its August release, really wanted to get my thoughts out there.

The holiday season is fast approaching, and this book is a gift well worth giving.

Positives

This wonderful volume is part of the Insight Kids range, but I honestly recommend it to Wonder Woman fans of all ages. Not only does it simply, but beautifully, capture the history of the Amazon race, it’s also a great look into the mind, and heart, of Diana herself.

The historical and mythological sides of the book are lovely. As a fan of both comic-books and Greek legends this is a tome that ticks a lot of boxes for me. As an educator and someone who loves sharing great stories with children, it ticks even more. In some ways it’s a shame that it’s been labelled for kids, because even I learned a few things from it I didn’t previously know.

Wonder Woman: The Way Of The Amazons is written in a very simple, and easy to follow style, but as someone who frequently reads for (and with) children, that’s actually a positive. It’s very engaging, and easy to follow. The darker sides of the Amazon’s history is tactfully, yet eloquently covered, without dwelling on the horrific or violent aspects of Heracles’ invasion.

More Positives

The art by Anna Rud and Steffi Walthall is beautiful. There are images that are cracked, and aged to look like the frescos inside ancient Mediterranean ruins, but there are also pictures of Diana from today; photos of her friends, enemies, weapons and armor too. There’s even a shot of her driver’s licence!

While the first half of the book is all adapted from scrolls, and ancient books of learning, the second half is Diana’s own personal account from the world of men. The balance between the ancient and the modern is masterfully handled, and exquisitely illustrated. Way of The Amazons is a great title, because even though some may think that it’s based on an archaic set of morals and values, Diana’s use of those in the modern world, show how relevant and powerful they can still be today.

Negatives

There are extremely few, and I’m really nit-picking. Certain passages, phrases, and stories are repeated, which could possibly prove frustrating to an adult reader. When reading this book with, and to children, however, they seem to lap it up. Nothing can prepare you for a ten year old child remembering, and vocalising, that Antiope and her followers founded Bana-Mighdall, because you’d read it to them a few pages back. That’s true magic.

CultureFly has teamed up with Walmart to release a series of loot boxes. These loot boxes are scaled down versions of the boxes available directly from CultureFly’s website. One of these is a Justice League themed box with a selection of items previously released in their World’s Finest: The Collection line of boxes.

I have just obtained one of these at my local Walmart, and will share with you what I discovered as I unboxed this mini-trove of DC memorabilia. Not all the contents are a mystery to the buyer, as a sticker on the box lists all the items except for one mystery item, which is represented by a silhouette of Batman.

The box itself bears the New 52/Rebirth comic logo of the Justice League, which suggests that the box is themed on the comics, not the movie. It also shows the symbols for the five most prominent Leaguers: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern. Sorry, but it appears that Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, and Cyborg didn’t make the cut.

Popping open the lid, the first item you see is a jigsaw puzzle of the Superman S-shield. This is the classic version, which was restored during Rebirth, after being eschewed by the New 52 reboot. This is hardly surprising, as this version was still used in DC merchandising, even during the New 52 era. This puzzle wouldn’t really offer a challenge to an adult or teen collector, but would serve as a nice display item.

The next item is a pair of Flash-themed socks. An item of footwear seems only appropriate for the character. You can show off your fandom by wearing them, but if that doesn’t fit your sense of style, you can also add them to your display of DC memorabilia.

Next is a metal pin of Wonder Woman’s double-W symbol. Once again, it makes a nice piece for display or wearing.

For Green Lantern, we get a very interesting item indeed. In fact, I think this is the best item in the box. This item is a ceramic planter pot in the shape of a Green Lantern power battery. It’s not full-size, but it is still a cool item, and looks accurate to the comics. While you could use this for growing a plant, that might make it difficult to keep it in good condition.

This leaves the mystery item, which unsurprisingly is a vinyl figure of the Goddamn Batman himself. Well, it says figure, but it’s really more of a mini statue than a figure, considering it’s not poseable at all. This 5 inch likeness of the Dark Knight sports his Rebirth costume, which makes it slightly out of date, but is still a nice addition to any DC collection.

And that’s the whole of the box’s contents. Only five items seems a bit light, but consider that this is a cut-rate sampler for the series of loot boxes that CultureFly is selling through their website. Each of those contain 7-10 items. The items here should give you a good idea if a subscription to their DC loot boxes is for you or not. If not, at least you get a cool assortment of DC treasures for your collection. I am quite happy with the selection of items offered here.

IDW Publishing have partnered with DC Comics producing this Artifact Edition which focuses on the last 25 years of Jim Lee’s work, showcasing his phenomenal work on the Dark Knight Detective, as well as the last Son of Krypton, while also celebrating the unique personas he created of the DC characters and their surrounding universe. The book also show’s his work pre DC with pieces on WildC.A.T.s and much more.

This Artifact Edition is truly remarkable with every page a scan of Lee’s original work, you get taken on a journey and the book is a story within itself filling each page with detail, supreme creativity, including some of the most iconic images ever produced in DC Comics.

The hard cover book is in black and white, spanning 144 pages. The book’s dimensions are 29cm in width by 44cm in length, a great size that was truly enjoyable in that it compliments the artwork and draws you in page by page. While looking through the book, you will be pleasantly surprised at certain points when you get to unearth a three page spread on particular pieces of Lee’s artwork. There are multiple three page spreads within the book, when I took a few photos of these spreads I ended up leaving them out of this review for the reason that they simply didn’t do the book justice. I have purposely left this as a surprise for you to experience should you purchase the book.

Jim Lee’s DC LEGENDS Artefact book is like no other, I have purchased so many graphic novels, comics, and DC books over my time and this one has shot to number one in my personal collection. The book captures the true essence of the DC Universe showcasing Lee’s talent, the black and white shades gives the images a sense of sharpness and true tone.

I was lucky enough to get a sample of these cards and wanted to share my thoughts.  First off, here are some images of the samples I received:

The sheer craftsmanship of these cards is awe inspiring.  The attention to detail is top notch and they are absolutely beautiful as well.  Any DC fan would be lucky to receive one of these for whatever special occasion “pops” up (pun intended).  Or, you could just keep them as a beautiful piece of artwork, which is what I plan to do, personally.

These aren’t the only cards available though.  There are also Batmobile, Superman, and Wonder Woman pop-up cards, as well as a Wonder Woman quilled card.  I do wish, though, that a Superman quilled card was available, as that symbol would look incredible in this style.  Also available are Game of Thrones and Harry Potter cards.

Below is the full description for each of the available DC cards, and a link to where you may purchase them.  The Pop-Up cards run for $14.99 while the Quilled cards are $12.99.  These prices may sound a tad high, but for beautiful pieces of art like these, it’s definitely worth it.
