Summary

Superman & Lois 3×13: All of Smallville comes together to view a meteor shower; Lex Luthor makes his move with a weapon that can rival Superman in raw power – and perhaps even kill him.

Positives

Thanks to the machinations of Bruno Mannheim, Lex Luthor finally has a weapon that may be capable of actually killing Superman. Finding the formally imprisoned Bizarro underground, Lex captures him and decides to experiment on and torture him. Being killed again and again, Bizarro resurrects more powerful than before. With each resurrection, Bizarro’s body becomes more and more twisted and disfigured, until Lex finally unleashes the creature upon the Man of Steel.

Negatives

I have no complaints about this episode. The action scenes were top notch, and the emotional impact was done really well. A particular scene between Lois and Superman during the battle with Doomsday stays in my mind, as Superman gives Lois a look, as if he knows he’s not going to return from battle this time.

If I had to complain about something, I hate that the next season is going to cut so much of the cast from the show. This episode saw some exciting new horizons for characters such as Chrissy and Kyle, and even Lana and John seemed to have found a potential relationship with each other. However, with the cuts being announced before the start of next season, I’m not sure what happens to these existing characters and their relationships with each other.

Verdict

Superman & Lois 3×13 was a great episode and an amazing conclusion to season three. It appears that the possible final season of the show will air in 2024 and I hope that the writers give it a proper send off for the fans it’s amassed over the years. There are so many vital parts to this show, between the villains, the action, and the entire family aspect of Clark’s life, and I hope they keep that same energy going into the final season.

Summary

Superman & Lois 3×12: Lois and Clark clash with Jordan over his carelessness around using his powers in public. And finally, after seventeen years behind bars, Lex Luthor is set to be released from prison.

Positives

I was so excited when I finally saw Lex Luthor on screen for this episode of Superman & Lois. Titled “Injustice”, this episode dealt with not only the release of Lex Luthor, but also what happened during his seventeen-year incarceration. Michael Cudlitz brings a very different take on the character, and I actually really like this particular look and attitude of Lex. When Lex is released, he makes a journey to the last place I’d expect for him to go — and it was a wonderfully unexpected surprise.

Negatives

Jordan is finally feeling the consequences of using his powers in public with the entire world clamoring for his identity, and now being grounded by Lois and Clark. I must admit, I hate what Jordan is going through, but he definitely deserves it. I feel like all of these rebellious moments are just those typical teenage growing pains, and I hope he’ll get it together soon, for everyone’s sake.

Verdict

Superman & Lois 3×12 was an amazing episode that carried a lot of emotional weight for so many of the characters in this show, especially Lois herself. Lois is learning all about consequences in this particular episode and Lex makes sure she gets the message about his release in dramatic fashion.

Summary

Superman & Lois 3×11: Lois begins her lifesaving surgery while Superman and General Lane begin the difficult task of tracking down the Mannheims.

Positives

Lois finally begins the procedure to save her life from breast cancer, but it comes during the middle of a crisis in Metropolis. I’ve been incredibly impressed by the writers this entire season so far when it comes to Lois’ cancer battle. I initially thought that this was just going to be a cancer scare for her, but I give props to the writers for taking Lois through something that millions of women experience every day and giving such emotion to her story. Elizabeth Tulloch did the scene in the hospital almost perfect, and it made me think of my own family and my own experience with cancer as well.

Negatives

I have no negatives about this episode. The story is told very well and the action is packed throughout, although, you do find yourself concerned about Lois’ surgery. Things aren’t going so well for the Mannheims right now also. Although, now escaped from the D.O.D., Peia’s powers are growing unstable and out of control, and that “cure” that Bruno injected her with isn’t exactly doing as promised. I try to have sympathy for the Mannheims because they obviously love their son Matteo, however, the trail of bodies left in their pursuit of power in the Metropolis underworld makes it difficult.

Verdict

Superman & Lois 3×11 was such a great episode and I’m looking forward to the next one. And although, the Kents have defeated cancer together and have the Mannheims on the run, there’s still a larger threat I’m looking forward to — the return of Lex Luthor!

Summary

Superman & Lois 3×10: Lois interviews Peia in the hope of unearthing the truth about an old case; Clarke struggles to spend quality time with the boys; Jonathan and Jordan find themselves at a party where tensions between Sarah and Jordan come to a head.

Positives

Although Lois is still undergoing treatment, she’s determined to publish the story about the Mannheims, regardless. With Peia now behind bars at the D.O.D., Lois attempts to question her about the framing of Lex Luthor. Luthor has been in prison for almost 20 years, and Peia warns Lois about the dangers of his release. But, Lois is determined to get the truth out — even if it means freeing Lex in the process.

I always love when Clark goes into “Dad mode”, and this episode is no exception. Attempting to take the boys to a wrestling match doesn’t quite go as planned, when Jordan and Jonathan have plans of their own. The boys’ plans go awry, when a party in Smallville gets busted up by the cops.

Negatives

While the episode was good, I felt like Peia got too much leniency because of her disease. At the end of the day, cancer or not, Peia is a murderer and should’ve been treated as one. The only one who seemed to understand this was John Henry, until Natalie changed his mind.

Verdict

Superman & Lois 3×10 is a great episode that makes you eager for what happens next. And while it does have its flaws, it’s inspirational to see Lois go through so much and still attempt to get justice, in spite of the odds.

Summary

Superman & Lois 3×09: Superman and John Henry clash over how to handle Bruno Mannheim; Lois worries over upcoming treatments and confides in Lana about her early courtship with Clark.

Positives

This episode gives you flashbacks of the early days of Lois and Clark’s romance. In a romantic gesture, Clark sold his entire baseball collection to purchase a dress for Lois, who was attending a celebration after she won an award. In the present, however, she tells Clark to get rid of it, believing that, after the removal of her breasts from surgery, she’ll no longer feel beautiful. The emotions between Lois and Clark during this time seem all too real. Tyler and especially Elizabeth continue to do such an amazing job with this storyline.

Negatives

The conflict between John Henry and Bruno Manheim escalates to the point of John being attacked in the middle of the street in Smallville while with his daughter, Natalie. When John responds, Superman and General Lane decide to essentially bench him, saying he’s too emotionally attached to the situation. I hated it for John because it seemed like he was just responding to Bruno’s threat in an even fashion, especially when it comes to protecting his daughter.

Verdict

Superman & Lois 3×09 was a great, emotional episode with a nice balance of action as well. And while everyone on the show plays their roles perfectly, Elizabeth Tulloch really shines as Lois in this episode, and I look forward to seeing what she continues to bring in future episodes.

Summary

Superman & Lois 3×08: Clark and Chrissy try to pique Lois’ interest in investigating Bruno, while Jordan inadvertently threatens Jon’s standing with the fire department.

Positives

With the revelation of Bruno and Peia being married, Clark seeks to bring this into the light with the ties to murders that have been revealed. Chrissy seems eager along with Clark, however, Lois refuses. I believe her friendship with Peia is definitely playing a role here, along with also dealing with her chemotherapy.

Things for the Manheims don’t get any better in this episode when it’s revealed that Matteo is the son of Bruno and Peia. Natalie’s first date is turned into a disaster when she sees her father beaten bloody by the crime lord. Matteo is left shocked by the reveal of his parent’s true nature, and I’m eager to see how this leaves him in the next episode and what happens to him and Natalie’s relationship next.

Negatives

I absolutely hated that Jon and Jordan had such an intense argument in this episode, but at the same time, I felt like it was needed. With Jon now volunteering at the Smallville fire department, it seems that both the boys are in the hero family business. But the two soon clash when Jordan saves someone, and Jon gets disciplined by the chief, Kyle Cushing, because of it. The brothers have a pretty harsh exchange of words, with Jordan being the most brutal. I really hope Jon doesn’t start to come off as jealous of Jordan in future episodes because I love the addition of him being a firefighter. It’s great that he’s found something outside of football that he’s passionate about.

Verdict

Superman & Lois 3×08 was a great episode and I’m eager to see how the next one goes. I have a feeling that everyone’s loyalties and relationships will be tested. Personally, I’m watching for Matteo and Natalie’s story. Natalie has been through so much since the first season that it was good seeing her get some normalcy in her life. Now that’s changed and I’m wanting to see how she’ll deal with it — and how it’ll effect her relationship with her Dad, John Henry.

Score: 4.5/5

Summary

Lois and Clark dig deeper on Bruno Mannheim, starting with his connections to Hob’s Bay Medical Center; Jonathan and Jordan panic at home over Lois’ dire diagnosis; Matteo comes to Smallville to meet John Henry.

Positives

Superman & Lois 3×07 gives you an awesome look at Bruno Mannheim’s origin story and I absolutely loved it! Chad L. Coleman does an incredible job making sure Mannheim doesn’t come off as a one-dimensional villain. He’s very motivated, smart, but also seemingly caring–especially for his family. Although his means to an end is morally wrong, he seems to be genuine about his desire to cure cancer–so far. I believe there’s more to be seen with Mannheim, but this episode answers a lot of questions about his past, and his personal aspirations for himself and Hob’s Bay in Metropolis.

Superman & Lois 3x07

Negatives

I hated how Jordan and Jonathan talked to Lois and Clark during this particular episode. The boys (especially Jonathan) are trying to think of any way they can to save Lois–including kryptonian technology. Once they find out the real reason it couldn’t be used at the end of the episode, it completely turned things, and I hated it. I thought the reasoning behind it could’ve been a bit more detailed in explanation, instead of such a bland response.

Superman & Lois 3x07

Verdict

Overall, I thought Superman & Lois 3×07 was a good episode. Chad L. Coleman steals the show with his origin story here, but it doesn’t dominate the entire episode, which is a good thing because it doesn’t slow down the pace of the show.

Score: 4.5/5

Summary

Clark finds himself in uncharted territory; Lois bonds with a new friend; Superman pays Bruno Mannheim a surprise visit; Lana puts Sarah in charge while she’s away at a meeting with Chrissy.

Positives

Superman & Lois 3×06 starts off pretty slow, but that’s because of the emotional journey that we’re on with the Kents at this time. Clark is in a therapy class with other people whose loved ones are either dying or have died of cancer. As everyone shares their personal experiences, it becomes too much for him to take and he leaves the room. This moment of denial was a huge part of this episode, and I enjoyed it. It’s refreshing, but also saddening, to see the Man of Steel go through something so difficult–something he can’t just punch away with super strength. Lois, meanwhile, is finally coming to terms with her cancer and is starting to consider all options for the future.

Negatives

Sara’s sister Sophie goes missing while under Sara’s care, which was painful to watch. Not because of Sophie running away, but because of the events that led up to it. It felt completely forced for everyone to ignore Sophie like this, and I thought it could’ve been handled in a better way.

Verdict

Superman & Lois 3×06 was a great episode and gives us a nice plot twist at the end. It was a reveal that I didn’t expect, and I think it’ll make a huge impact going forward–especially with Lois. My only issue with the episode was the side plot involving the Cushing family, as Sophie running away really didn’t feel like a necessary story to tell, but since they told it, it should’ve been handled a little better than what we were given here.

Score: 4/5

Summary

As Lois admits herself into cancer treatment, Clark and General Lane show concern about Lois’ choice for care. Meanwhile, Kyle and Chrissy attempt to take things further in their emerging relationship.

Positives

Superman & Lois 3×05 was very frustrating for me to watch. Not because of the story, but because you become so invested in the characters that their choices, no matter how difficult, almost become your own. I found Lois to be very difficult in this episode, but I sympathize with her at the same time. Dealing with chemotherapy and still trying to bring Bruno Manheim’s criminal actions to light, I kept wanting her to rest, but Lois is still trying to do her job. Even her choice in healthcare is an attempt to finish her story. She actually enrolls in Manheim’s cancer center for treatment and a chance to see firsthand what he’s up to! I commend Lois for going the extra mile, but you also feel concern for her.

Negatives

This felt like a slow-paced episode, but was still very emotional. Superman & Lois is usually pretty good about balancing the action and emotional issues very well, and this episode was no different. One of my favorite scenes is between Chrissy and Kyle. The two share a moment together that I hope defines their relationship further and also gives Kyle some development outside of just being a “cheater” in his marriage to Lana.

Verdict

Overall, Superman & Lois 3×05 is a good episode, but don’t go into it expecting any tremendous fight scenes or anything. This episode was an emotional ride, and that’s actually nice to get from a superhero TV series. Each character gets you invested in their development and future potential. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s going to happen in the next episode.
