In the 80s the toy market was the most competitive and toy makers were looking for the most enduring franchise that they could build upon. The most popular action figures on the shelves were raised to new levels of popularity with their own animated series that played as an encapsulated toy commercial much to the bane of parents all across the country. There was one particular line that perhaps didn’t have to go that far to gain its appeal, and it had proven a television-ratings winner as a Saturday Morning Cartoon for decades.

When Kenner Toys (the proprietors of the Star Wars franchise) was looking to compete against the likes of Mattel’s Masters of the Universe, Hasbro’s The Transformers, and G. I. Joe: A Real American they set their sites on the time-tested DC Comics Universe and unleashed the SUPERS POWERS Collection of 3 ¾ inches action figures! Each figure in the premiere line-up was an authentically detailed reproduction of everyone’s favorite Super Friends, and cleverly articulated a “superpower” that matched the hero they represented!

Superman had a super-powered punch, The Flash moved his legs to simulate a running action, The Joker swung his madcap mallet, and Wonder Woman crossed her bracelets to deflect enemy fire! Each figure came perfectly packaged in a bright blue, red, and yellow blister card with a collectible card and exclusive comic book adventure. They also featured accessories like Aquaman’s trident and The Penguin’s deadly umbrella that revealed a sharp sword for defense. The initial line of Super Power action figures was a best seller and prompted two additional lines before it was discontinued.

Now, 40 years later, adult collectors can appease their nostalgia as toy designer Todd McFarlane’s McFarlane Toys resurrects the SUPER POWERS Collection. Paying homage to what had come before, McFarlane Toys which currently owns the license to produce DC-related action figures, accessories, and collectibles to the mass market, in a partnership with Walmart is making the first three figures in the line inspired by their predecessor to include Superman, Batman, and the evil New God Darkseid. The figures are in a classic 4” scale and will feature the anticipated 5 points of articulation.

Though Superman is modeled in a contemporary deco of the 80s original, Darkseid is the exception designed to match the villain’s “New 52” look, while Batman is also recast in the Jim Lee-inspired look from “Hush”. Along with the proper accessories, the figures are also fitted to scale play in a striking Batwing assault flier, and Supermobile designed to protect the Man of Steel in the event he needs a boost of power! Both vehicles feature unique weaponry to extend the gameplay. So far, these are the only current releases in the line, but more will undoubtedly follow.

LEGO’s “The Batman” collection is available for presale exclusively at Walmart.com and features three new building sets. “The Batman” Batmobile by Hot Wheels is a collectible R/C replica of Batman’s newest vehicle from the highly anticipated film. Additional DC collections from Tango Hotel, McFarlane Toys Collectibles and others are also available.

• FUNKO and the DC Shop have teamed up to produce the exclusive Diamond Glitter figures including The Flash, Wonder Woman and Batman ($17.50 each). The new commemorative collectibles are sure to dazzle Funko collectors and DC fans alike. The Fastest Man Alive zips through the Speed Force and into your Pop! collection with the DC Shop exclusive diamond the Flash figure. Commemorating Wonder Woman’s 80th anniversary, the new Wonder Woman Diamond Glitter features our favorite heroine in her battle stance and the Batman figure looks stunning in his diamond crusted black cape and cowl.

• “THE BATMAN” BATMOBILE from Hot Wheels R/C features epic remote-control performance with authentic details and movie-like sculpts for the adult collector and fan of the Batman franchise. This Batmobile model was designed for collectors who appreciate premium design and precision performance in replica vehicles. This 1:10 scale Ultimate edition features movie accurate graphics, LED lights, smoke and flame FX from both the hood and the rear, detailed exterior and interior, a Batcave inspired plinth, and a posable Batman figure behind the wheel. It boasts high-tech features such as light and sound effects and working suspension, as well as a diorama plinth that both Alfred and the Caped Crusader would appreciate for its authenticity. • The LEGO Group recently announced a brand new collection based on Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming film “The Batman.” Now available for presale exclusively on Walmart.com, the collection includes three building sets featuring minifigures based on Batman, Selina Kyle, Alfred and Commissioner Gordon, along with Super Villains The Riddler and The Penguin. The collection’s new sets are: Batcave: The Riddler Face-off ($79.99), Batmobile: The Penguin Chase ($29.99), and the Batman & Selina Kyle Motorcycle Pursuit ($14.99).

• MCFARLANE TOYS COLLECTIBLES. The famous collectible manufacturer has a stunning line up of collectibles related to “The Batman” film — The Batman, The Riddler and Catwoman are all available to pre-order for $19.99. The Batcycle, based on the new film, will also be on sale for pre-order for $29.99. The most authentic “The Batman” film statue, created with direct input from the film’s producer and director and based on Robert Pattinson’s character, is also available for pre-order now.

• TANGO HOTEL x “BATMAN: THE WORLD” Collection. In collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC, Tango Hotel is releasing a limited-edition apparel collection featuring key artwork from “Batman: The World,” DC’s new 184-page hardcover anthology book. A first-of-its-kind publishing event, the book includes Batman stories by top creative teams from across the globe, taking place in their home countries. The collection highlights each artist, their cover artwork, and their background story. The Tango Hotel x “Batman: The World” collection consists of two capsules; the first capsule is available for fans to purchase now on NTWRK and the Tango Hotel web shop.

• THE BATMAN x EXTRA BUTTER x FORTNITE COLLECTION. Extra Butter’s epic limited edition apparel collection was created with the Zero Point comic series and the recently revealed Foundation comic. ExtraButterNY.com/DCFANDOME

Right off the bat, Batman/Fortnite! Batman/Fortnite : Zero Point #1 drops on Tuesday April 20th. There will be individual in-game redemption codes for each registered member exclusively! These codes are redeemable for bonus DC-themed digital items in Fortnite, starting with the Rebirth Harley Quinn Outfit. There will be  new codes and in-game items to redeem for each of the six issues of Batman/Fortnite. Fans who redeem all six will also unlock a new Armored Batman Zero Outfit for their Fortnite character.

The newest perk is the DC BOOK CLUB. It is a new-reader-friendly monthly reading event for fans who are looking to talk about their favorite moments in comics.
